I bought a Flite seat around twenty years ago, used it for more than a decade then passed it on to my nephew. I think he still got it, would be cool to have it restored. I will ask him if I can have it back and give it a new life

I have been successful in getting a lot of life out of my leather saddles by using shoepolish on them on a regular bases. Sounds bit weird and you might think you would get shoepolish on your shorts, but when not using too much polish and giving it a real shine using an old sock it works great!

This topic is of no interest to me, but still I'm scrolling from picture to picture, taking time to admire the beauty of each saddle.

Holy! The Flite is a beauty! If I only had a bike that matched such a seat...

Edit: I have an old Miyata that I want to brush up, and the saddle on that one is old and out of shape. Black leather (or imitation), with stitches making these large diamond-shaped bumps. My father used this bike when he was racing,decades ago, and I have been thinking on restoring it to his birthday in september -16 so we can go riding together. He thinks it is too old and just want to throw it away.

How much time does it take you? What are the material costs?

Good question

Material is about 100-200NOK (if i have to dye the vegetable tanned leather), but work is minimum 2h for plain leather and with paint logos, stitching like 4 hours. Even 5 if I have to digitize logo and make pressing form to make 2D sign on leather.

Sometimes recovering old foam take some additional time.

But anyway I enjoy it a lot

I´m not sure, but in my case I just want a regular black again. The seat is pretty torn in the leather. So price would have to be cheaper than buying a new. And I don´t see any need to buy a new one if I can fix the one I have.

If it´s something more custom it would be another matter. But it´s better to start at a price that you're comfortable with cause it´s harder to raise prices later on. At least if you price your self way to low in the first place. And I understand that it´s something that´s not done in 30 mins.

You should definitely charge some money for it. Especially for materials. If you can't do it as a full time job, you can at least get some extra cash for other projects or vacations. Ill PM you.

Bent rails is not a problem at all, cracked shell can be repaired as well. Try me next time

Once again I've used old technic, thread with epoxy glue but not only...





Then I've used 3mm carbon rods to reinforce shell on both sides. So once again holes, carbon rods but this time cyanoacrylic glue:

The graphics and whole leather is covered with special leather matte finish, but how long it will last we can only find out after test. I'm quite confident that this will last for a while...

Dan, this is Fizik Arione Titanium Rails saddle dedicated for Triathlon i believe.

For those who are skeptical about painting on saddle I have introduce acid digest technic. This gives really good results and will never disappear but the color of graphics/text is different on different leather types/colors.

Thats a really nice look, more "vintage" than paint. If combined with pressing a structure ("preging" in Norwegian) that would also be really interesting.
