Where to MTB in Stavanger area??

Hey everyone. I've just moved here from Canada. I've found the trails in Sørmarka and was bored after 2 rides. There must be lots of trails on the other side of the fjord. Are there any group rides or maps of trails in places nearby? I'm looking for long rides, 3-6+ hrs, and as technical as they come. I work in Forus and would like to head out to trails leaving from Sandnes after work.

Head southeast for a couple of hours to Kristiansand, and you will find technical singletrack heaven! ktodnem has been here before, and I definitely think he'll recommend it. Down here you can ride for hours on 100% singletrack - very different from Stavanger. PM me or post here if you're keen

Kristiansand is very good indeed, and much drier as well. I might just fire up the trusty old Toyota for a day-trip during the Easter break.

Thanks everyone, I'll meet up with ktodnem once I get some time (renovations). I'm not adverse to day trips, but also need some places I can ride to every day. What about Marathon mtb races, or mtb stage races? Any close by?

About 80km long, from Egersund to Sandnes. Not very technically demanding, I have heard.

Only one race left in the winter series, the summer series are listed a bit further down the page. These races are very short, though, 45-60 minutes, and not very technically challenging. But the races are very well attended, and should be a good way of meeting other cyclists.

There is a downhill-trail across the fjord at Bjørheimsbygd. It will probably be improved an developed during the summer but it is pretty cool already. And there is a road so can get back up by car.
