Much thanks to many people in Norway who helped Sharon and I plan and do a road trip from North Vancouver and Whistler to Southern Norway.

Desmoskier and Muddybear said i should create a forum name and show some pictures here and Geir told me this would be a good userprofile.

I will put some pictures here for later

Some pictures from Beitostølen where we rode for the first three days. First Sletterfjell and good descents. True alpine singletrack starting at 1370m then descending to the Vang valley ending at 670m on public trails of pine-needled loam acceptable quality. Usually in Whistler our alpine starts at 1800 - 1900m so this was cool to have so much oxygen

A pleasant ramble down natural trails. We somehow survived and had a great time despite not a berm, skinny or teeter-totter in sight

The all you can eat dinner at Radisson Blu is pretty discounted too if you stay there and we ate a lot

Someday I will make it to Norway to ski. Norwegians were very gracious hosts and were very welcoming even though I mangle the pronunciation.

The next day in Beitostølen. A beautiful blue sky day with only patchy clouds gave us a chance to do two rides. The first was a push up to Hugakøllen then a ride down granite slabs then publicly maintained and marked pine-needled singletrack of acceptable quality.

The second part of the day was a pleasant ramble partially lift-aided up the lifts then ridge-wandering up and over slabs and down singletrack above tree-line. Again quality was acceptable although once again we wondered at the lack of wall rides and gratuitous skinnies

We got shown around by Kasper of Bike Beitostølen the first half of the day then Bent-Johan took us around the local trails. Bent-Johan is a half-Sami from Alta. Wowow Norway is freaking huge and there are 10,000 people in Alta which is the same latitude as Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean which is pop of 300 or so

Kvithøvd to start a cloudy foggy day with Norwegian loam. Kasper said "Norwegians dream of finding trails like this". I responded "Mountainbikers dream of finding trails like this" as I stood filming while ankle deep in mossy forest undergrowth watching as Sharon and Kasper roosted triple overhead blower brown pow.

Skies broke and the sun made an appearance as forecasted. Showing the diversity of the terrain within a short distance of Bike Beitostølen's home turf within 25 minutes drive we were at the borders of the Jotunheimen National Park to take a spin on the alpine ridgelines of Skindrofjellet. More views ensued.

Back to the civilized environs of Beitostølen and the accommodations of the Radisson Blu in short order

Poor Norwegian glaciers are having a hard time just like Canadian glaciers. Terrain is so similar to.Northern BC and YK we keep double - taking.

Driving from interior through Geiranger to Valldal then to Åndalsnes

Some Swedish guy gave me that name when I first beat him and some Norwegian to skiing good powder in Rogers Pass in Canada. I found it flattering because it is well known that Swedes and Norwegians are pretty fast and pretty motivated so if I can break trail and get to pow before them then I was doing something right.

Anyhow Geir and Helge would make fun of me because i never spelled it right. But now I know how to spell and maybe pronounce it not so bad. Who says learning about culture cannot be interesting and educational! I sure learned how to say "Fane" a lot when biking in Oslo and not making the hard climbs

The first bit is not so bad. Then if you see on the Romsdal map of the trail that it gets steeper in the middle but it's easy to walk around and pretty short section; the rock slabs are like Red Bull Rampage style steep with more steeps so I did not even want to try it. Then the second bit is also really good. Nice natural trails.

Also the climb to it is from the parking at the end of the road is pretty short. The Bom lets you drive to pretty high which is great then you come out in the small roads just E of Isfjorden. If you wanted to climb the Bom on the bike it would still be a halfday ride as the climb from the tollgate isn't so bad. Not too steep and in the trees. Super high quality ride

Took a half day and did the Kløvstien trail off the Trollstiggen - Åndalsnes. Quick out and back then battling cruise ships for souvenirs in Åndalsnes.

The map is on trailnet. I parked at the middle point of the trail then rode and push-biked up to the stairs before the Kløvstien becomes stairs. Amazing the trail was built by hand! Only took 40 minutes to climb to the Trollstigen road and ask for a Instagram tourist picture by this nice couple from Bavaria then to ride down.

Then went back to town to have lunch and stimulate the Norwegian economy.
Cruise ships!! Åndalsnes is 2400 people town. The smaller cruise ship docking is 2700 people.

Before and after

After having lunch we drove to and rode Tarløysa in the afternoon. Kind of meh. Views good. Trail mediocre

This is the Rødven peninsular area about 20kms away from Åndalsnes proper. This ride is an out - and - back characterized by potentially superb views but we had clouds.

We managed to time it between incoming rain and wind squalls and got some pictures but the trail wasn't in the same quality of shape as perhaps other lesser-known trails (definitely not barnålsstig). Still if the trailbed was perhaps below average the views were pretty good

I would say the trail is famous because photographers can get up there quick and get pictures in evening light. But it's a photography trail and not really a trail that you would go to for really excellent riding. So like LittleFjellet and Sjurvarden (more of that later) go for the views but be prepared to be disappointed for the riding.

EDIT - I must say that both Rexiplex and Desmoskier told me to go to Valldal and Fjøra for the biking. I ignored the advice of the locals because I was scared of the cruise ship traffic and thought that the Trollstigen road would be full of Germans in RVs but the traffic wasn't actually so bad. That is my mistake. Should have would have gone and ridden Meffjellet and other Fjøra trails - whuoppps
