Hi, if you like you can add frame saver like JP Weigle to the frame. If you want a spray I would use Boeshield T9 instead of WD40. It leaves a protective film.
In decades of riding steel frames and seeing thousands of them in the shops for service I’ve only ever seen a couple bikes rusted out.
One had a tin of anchovies dumped in the tube as a joke. The rider didn’t notice and they rotted and wicked moisture into the tube. The other was one that the rider had written all his info on a piece of paper and rolled up to drop into the seat tube in case the bike was ever stolen. Same thing, acted as a wick.
So talk to your shop for a lowdown on local conditions to help decided if this is called for. If you live right on the ocean or are riding in slushy winter with lots of road salt you might want to do it.
And don’t put anything in your seat tube!
Happy Trails!
