those days usually even expensive saddles are made from synthetic leather. I always love natural leather because of many possibilities this material can give you and also because it looks better and better during use. So I've made an summary of old or ugly saddles and they new skin I did lately....

San Marco Rolls:



Rolls covered with dark brown sheep leather 0.7mm:

Selle Italia Turbo covered with 1mm black upholstery leather with hand made stitching and airbrushed Peugeot logo:

Yes Rolls came up nice.

My favorite is Concor Supercorsa. I love horse leather and this color and wax finish is great. Also Concor itself is very good saddle.

Velo with lizard skin. Modern yet very special.

The one with "lizard" skin is absolutely stunning. The black one with red stitching and the Peugeot logo is also very eyecatching. Impressive work.

Velo had red elements underneath so I had to cover them with black skin as well. This "lizard skin" was difficult to get the shape, very stubborn

The Peugeot will be intensively tested by me on my black Peugeot with red elements together with very thick, top quality black leather on the handlebar.

Yes, that is my runner up. For a more modern bike it will be stunning. Wonder how it will look on my Genesis... :-)

Hmmmmm....it's quite difficult to pick one favorite among these saddles! It is very impressive work, real craftmanship!! But if you twisted my arm, I would take the Concor Supercorsa:)

Velo lizardskin var veldig elegant, og Peugeot var veldig GTI. Håntverket ser uansett flott ut på allesammen, men disse to var mine favoritter fordi de tar inn et annet "språk" (sko og biler) og gjør dem ekstra spennende.

awesome that you do this kind of craft, you do it for yourself or as a line of work?(i.e selling the saddles)

sorry for late reply, I was busy, guess with what So now I will try to answer.

Airbrush paint are quite durable as I made lot of attempts and now I know what king of paint works well with leather. Also I'm painting them with primer now and I'm happy with the result. And third thing is what I made with Peugeot (Turbo) and Supercorsa. The logo/text first is stamped so is like layer lower and that secure the paint even more.

Trillebar, at the moment I'm doing it as the hobby but i have more and more of them and I'm wondering where it will take me:) So at the moment I'm using saddles to gain more and more Norwegian friends as some of you already asked me to restore some old saddle and I'm doing it with pleasure. I met nice people because of those saddles and other leather/bicycle works so far.

If some of you have idea what kind of saddles and which way I can do I'm open for suggestion. Some of you advice me to make saddle based on Chesterfield Sofa or Rugby Ball. Will do it hopefully one day.

I love leather saddles and mostly ride on leather. My favourite saddle is the Selle Italia Flite in different versions. Next time I wear out one I know who to ask for advice!

Have you ever tried kangarooleather for a saddle? It is suppose to be quite a bit stronger than cowleather.

No, I've never tried one. I've just bought a larger amount of cow and horse leather, so no more budget for kangaroo. But will try one day. At the moment in my opinion, horse is indestructible

Very famous leather is Horween. I have some samples, but material for one saddle will cost like 30USD + saddle + work. So all together is a bit to much. But I hope someone will order such one from me one day

I think I still have a kangaroohide somewhere. I originally bought it to use for a camera project because its very thin and strong, perfect to make camera bellows but the project was never done.
Kangaroo is often used for motorcycle suits because its so strong and still thin. Would probably make a very nice saddle
