Hi,

after few restorations of mountain bikes I'm thinking to do do full recovery of some old bike. As I can see there are lot of DBS from 60's on finn. I'm wondering If you guys can advise me if it's good idea to buy bike like this and make full recovery with all new chrome parts and povder coating. It is lot of effort and money and on the end of the day I would like to sell it with at least some profit as I don't have any more space for bikes at home.

So do you think that if the bike will be recovered as new is there a chance to get like 3000NOK for it. This is what I approximately will spend for all external work not counting my own time ICON_SMILE

But I really like to bring bikes to life ICON_SMILE

Last think. What is better to make recovery as it was from factory or better to give a bike some fresh lift like lemon frame color or pearl ivory color?

Thanks for all suggestions.

Regards

Fully and nicely restored I would consider this one worth NOK 3k.

I'm afraid that appraisal is a bit optimistic. I'd bet any profit is just wishful thinking. At least if you don't own your own paint booth and chrome plating shop, and price the work as a "labour of love", and not by the hour. I'm all for such projects, but I don't think you should expect to make any money on it.

Won't powder coating it diminish it's collector's value? If the paint's too far gone for restoring; surely painting it in the original scheme would be better?

Other than that, restoring and "saving" an old classic like this is all good, of course.

Stein and mtbmaniac,

thanks for your advice. I expect that this is will be non profit project, but as I'm disappointed with quality of some modern bikes and general trend to make bikes looks better compromising quality, I'm just curious to explore and dig little more into old timers, hoping to find old good school of fabrication. Maybe then I should choose some other brand than 60's DBS? Any idea?

Thanks a lot

A classic DBS is wonderful. Quality is good too.

Mosels that are actually worth a bit more are The Apache, Crossmaster and Tomahawk, but then special the parts will be more expensive and harder to come by.

Those bikes mentioned above are quite interesting but the one from picture in first post have more chrome parts so the restoration effect will be more spectacular ICON_SMILE

What is the name of this DBS model? I see always name like Gammel Dbs Damesykkel.

I don't know. Maybe they didn't have model names. Try googling "dbs kataloger" and see what you find.
