Hi,

this winter finally I decide to quit common shifting system and say goodbye to greasy chain.

I decide to build a bike with Gates Carbon Drive and Shimano Alfine hub.

Belt:

Alfine:

Because Carbon Gates Drive need special type of frame in order to put belt into frame, rear frame triangle need to be somehow opened. There are many kind of solutions to do that. I've choose to design and order completely new frame.

I want this bike to be big, with long suspension at the front, short steam and little higher handlebars. Comfortable, maintenance free bike for daily use city/forest.

So I made an design in BikeCAD:

As I'm aviation enthusiast I found some painting scheme ideas and did adaptation into bike ICON_SMILE

Will you design your own frame? Or will you have a frame builder build one for you?

Looks like a cool winter project.

Hi Perbl,

yes, I was brave enough to design my own, really big and with high front (quite long suspension).

I'm very curious how all this will work in real environment.

So I've ordered the frame. Pictures will come sooooon.... ICON_SMILE

Hi Stein,

I'm not sure if I can officialy public this company details yet ICON_SMILE

What I can say now is that production time was 3monthes, it was not in Norway and a cost was around 3000 NOK.

Write me an email so I can write little more.

And here is a picture of ready frame:

No worries. You'll disclose it when it's OK to do so. ICON_SMILE

NOK 3000 for a completely custom frame like that is ridiculously cheap, though!

Nice!

I choose an front fork, maybe not the best but the longest I could find in this class RST First 29 AIR. With air spring so not so heavy.

Comes in white colour so will be changed into black mat.

So finally all Carbon Gates Drive arrive from Germany (belt and front and rear sprocket), not so cheap but I hope worth the money...

Thanks, I have to admit that I like final result as well. And I'm impressed how nice the bike works. Drive and shifters works flawless. No single noise even if you jump there is nothing what can generate any sound, all stiff, quiet and clean:)

Some more pics...

Weight, 12kg, so not bad I think. Remember that this is really big 29er, with 120mm travel fork. MTB 26, looks like BMX comparing to it 😄
